WAGS Distinguished Master's Thesis Award

Description: Each year the Western Associate of Graduate Schools honors a Master's student completing a degree in any discipline in which the institution offers a Master's degree but no graduate degree beyond the Master's.
Value: The Award consists of a Certificate of award, a cash prize of $1,000 (US), and travel expenses for the student and/or faculty thesis advisor to receive the Award at the annual meeting held in the Spring.
Eligibility: To be eligible for this Award, students must have completed the Master's degree between July 1 and June 30 of the preceding academic year.
Application Procedure: The Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Research, on behalf of the University of Saskatchewan, may put forward one nomination each year for the Award. In April of each year, the CGSR will invite departments and colleges to make nominations. Each nomination requires a written endorsement of the Dean of the Graduate School (College) or equivalent office.
Nominations must consist of the following documents:
  • an original plus seven copies of the written endorsement cited in the Eligibility Requirements;
  • an original plus seven copies of an expanded abstract or summary prepared by the nominee (1,000-1,500 words) describing the research and its significance;
  • an original plus seven copies of table of contents for the nominated thesis;
  • an original plus seven copies of the letter from the Department Head or major professor which should include information regarding the significance of the thesis, the contribution of the thesis to the University of Saskatchewan program, and the impact of the thesis on the knowledge base of the discipline.
